I have decided to write my compare and contrast essay about natural childbirth versus a cesarean section childbirth. My personal experience was a C-section. I had been prepared for a natural birth; we went to all of the classes that the hospital provides. My husband and I had created a birthing plan and when my due date came, my doctor strongly suggested that we schedule a surgery. Many people have very strong feelings about one versus the other and I look forward to researching and writing about both.

In "I Want A Wife" by Judy Brady, the author states, from a feminist point of view, that women are expected to wait on their spouses hand and foot. She states that she would also like a wife. Brady's wife would complete all of the household chores, take care of the children and make sure that all of her needs are met before her wife's.
The article "Men - It's In Their Nature" Sommers is discussing society's ideas of boys and girls should be raised. She stated that society as a whole seems to want to suppress these natural "hard-wired traits" [pg. 366] that boys possess. Sommers states that we are trying to make boys more docile and emotional.
I have decided to write my analysis essay on the article, "Men - It's In Their Nature." Growing up with 3 younger sisters, this subject was very interesting.

As I walk from my car, I can smell the ocean breeze already. The sea gulls are screaming and
circling around in the air. There are children running and playing in the long-abandoned buildings
that were built to protect our country. The air is salty, there is sand making its way in to my flip-flops
and softly exfoliating my feet. Once I pass over the hill and make my way around the buildings, my
breath is taken away by the burst of wind that comes at my face. The salt spray stings my eyes. I can
smell seaweed and wet sand.
The sand has given away to rocks, millions of little rocks. I walk closer to the shore and see in the
distance the tide pools that are exposed. I can see a seal swimming around just off shore. I pick up
little pieces of sea glass. Their once sharp, jagged edges are now soft and smooth from years of
rolling in the surf. I spend hours here, listening to the birds, the waves, the wind. It is my private
sanctuary where I can go to collect my thoughts and relax.

1. Summary
In "Destroyed" by Peter F. Martin, the author is criticizing the use of performance enhancing
drugs by athletes as well as the response and attitude that the media and the fans have
about the subject. He writes about the personal consequences that athletes who are
"doping" face. Martin also feels that athletes who are cheating by taking performance
enhancing drugs aren't taking the sport seriously and are willing to risk a negative reputation.
2. Paragraph 10 Paraphrase
Athletes are risking their lives by continuing to use drugs to succeed in their sport. They are
mocking the sport as well as others from previous decades who had to rely on their natural
abilities and talent.
3. Quote
The first sentence in the 11th paragraph really stood out to me. "Athletes - those who dope,
who take steroids, who cheat - are victims of far more serious maladies than their sports."
This stuck with me. I never thought about steroids and performance enhancing drugs as
being a threat to not only these athlete's careers but also their lives.
